The UVJC School is the crowned jewel of the Upper Valley Jewish Community. Our diverse and dedicated faculty educates almost 160 students each year. The school's mission is two fold: to provide a vibrant Jewish community and foster a strong Jewish identity in our students. The curriculum is ambitious and realistic. In the formative years, we introduce the students to the Hebrew alphabet and stories from the Bible as well as holidays, ritual and songs. Beginning in fourth grade, students begin reading prayer and learning the foundations of the Hebrew language. They also discuss the Torah in relevant terms: what are the Torah's teachings and how can we relate them to our lives today? Fiction, Jewish heroes, family mapping, and modern Israel are also covered. B'nai Mitzvah is only one milestone in a child's Jewish education. At the UVJC School, we also offer post B'nai Mitzvah classes and opportunities to work as a student teacher in the school. Classes are supplemented by school events and services. Throughout the year, the school takes every opportunity to celebrate holidays as a community. Students look forward to events such as: shabbaton, the chanukkah hoe down, purim carnival and "last sundae" picnic. Our students are a diverse group, representing many Jewish backgrounds and traditions. At the UVJC School we welcome all our students. We try to foster an environment that promotes empathy and learning.
