Notes: Anyone may have the honor of opening/closing the ark, dressing the Torah (Glilah), and lifting the Torah (Hagbah). However, the Torah can be awkward to lift and since someone has to fast for 40 days if it is dropped, we strongly recommend a strong adult for that honor. For an Aliyah (being called to recite blessings over the torah), a Jewish adult (age 13 and older) must be called. Non-Jewish adults may accompany the Jewish adult and are welcome to sing along if they feel comfortable doing so.
