Assistant Director Job Description

Assistant to the Director at Kol Ha’Emek

The Assistant to the Director at Kol Ha’Emek will be responsible for supporting the Education Director. Required tasks are in regular typeface while desirable skills are in italics:

  • Working with education director to plan and deliver Family and Tot High Holiday services, Hanukkah Party, Purim Carnival, and Tot Shabbat programs
  • Greeting students and parents and directing them to the right room for the day’s events
  • Being present at the Roth Center during school hours to support teachers with classroom management, furnishing classroom materials, taking attendance, etc.
  • Shopping for weekly bagels, art supplies, party supplies, and other errands
  • Setting up “bagel time” on Tuesdays, supervising students while they are snacking, cleaning up and making sure students get to class
  • Subbing for the Education director when necessary (being physically present, sorting out needs that arise during school, leading or assisting Rabbi in leading assembly)
  • Other tasks to be determined
  • Assisting with grant writing and other fundraising efforts on behalf of the school
  • Teaching classes when necessary
  • Assisting with Jew Crew and Tot Shabbat programs

Qualities & Skills

  • Organized, attentive to detail
  • Comparison shopper who stays within budget
  • Likes working with children, young teachers, and parents
  • Creative party planner
  • Classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Some familiarity with Judaism is important, but it is not necessary to be Jewish
  • Familiarity with special needs education and ability to support such students and their teachers

Job Type:
Part-time: typical work schedule will involve some Sundays from 9:30 am to 12:30 and Tuesdays 2:40 to 5:40 pm.  The job will be 5-10 hours per week, with more expected around the High Holidays, Hanukkah, Purim, Passover, and Dartmouth winter and spring breaks (approximately November 15 through January 1, and March 10-28).  Some weekends and early evenings will be required. Exact schedule will be agreed upon by the candidate and the Education Director. Pay scale: $20-30 depending on skills and experience.
